Trafficking days     Xiao Fei

Xiao Fei came from Myanmar. He was the eldest son at home and he had two younger brothers. When he was seven, his mother was out to visit his grandmother who lived in the remote area. One day, his father got drunk after a celebration party.  A  villager brought a stranger to Xiao Fei’s home and told them that they were going to bring Xiao Fei and his brother to grandmother’s home in order to find their mother. The stranger asked them to hurry. Xiao Fei didn’t ask for permission from his father as he was still drunk, and left home with one of his brothers.

They walked for many days and lived in different families on their way. Whenever he asked about when they would arrive grandmother’s home, the stranger told him,  “Not far, we are almost there.” When they arrived the third family, a 16 years old girl told Xiao Fei that he was being cheated, the stranger was committing children trafficking. At the same time, the stranger took away his younger brother, and Xiao Fei was very frightened. After a few days, they arrived another family. Xiao Fei discovered that he had already arrived Fujian province of China. Xiao Fei was being sold to an old man’s home with a daughter and a son whose wife was dumb. Their daughter already got married. However, their son committed suicide due to gambling problems. The old man was so upset and he decided to buy a son in order to replace his own. Xiao Fei lived there for 5 years. He had to study at school and worked at the market every day. The old man treated him very harsh as he was afraid that Xiao Fei would repeat his own son’s history. Xiao Fei became rebellious and he ran away from home. During his homeless days, he stole things, committed in fights and went to cyber bar. He was sent home by the police a few times. After the police discovered that he was sold to this home, they kept Xiao Fei at a relief station.  As Xiao Fei forgot where he was born, he was sent to live in our center in the end.

When Xiao Fei first arrived here, he was miserable. He has now changed. Not only that he has adapted to the environment, he enjoys singing here. As a music lover, he had the opportunity to join the summer class for electronic piano. Hope Xiao Fei can forget his painful past, lead a joyful life and have a bright future!
